Valentin Watrigant

Light is what turns an animated shot into a cinematic image: it guides the eye, sets the mood and carries the emotion of every scene. Valentin has made it his craft, and he practices it in France’s leading animation studios.

A Supinfocom graduate, he started out as a lighting artist at Mikros Animation on Sherlock Gnomes, then joined Illumination Studios Paris in 2018, where he lit images for The Grinch, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Sing 2, Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. After working as key lighting artist at Mikros Animation on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, he returned to Illumination Studios Paris, where he is now a senior lighting artist.

Working with Valentin means learning lighting from someone who practices it every day in production, with the standards of a feature-film studio: readable images, consistent from one shot to the next and delivered on time. He passes on the technique, from Maya to Arnold and Substance, as well as the eye and the reflexes that make the difference in a review with a lighting supervisor.
